The first three rounds are over in EMS One Spring 2013 Cup #3. Four teams remain fighting for the main prize of 100 points in the EMS ranking and $600.
Round of 32 saw two major upsets with two unexpected match-ups. ESC Gaming with Wiktor "TaZ" Wojtas, who admitted to underperforming at online tournaments, had to take on Overrated Individuals in the first round.
The team around Sam "RattlesnK" Gawn proceeded to the next round with a close 16-13 score. The second round gave them a default win after 3DMAX's Tomáš "oskar" Šťastný did not show up in time.
Dennis "Rytter" Rytter played as a stand-in for fnatic as Lasse "stingeR" Midtstue was not able to play. fnatic were paired up with Epsilon in the first round, which saw the Swedes losing 8-16 to Andreas "MODDII" Fridh and his new teammates.
fnatic's move to bring MODDII back paid off today
Fnatic proceeded to put up good results against EYES ON U and n!faculty, beating the Germans 16-7 and 16-8 respectively. They will meet k1ck, who faced a favorable bracket draw, in the first semi-final taking place tomorrow.
VeryGames once again fell short to a domestic opponent. After losing to Imaginary Gaming in the second cup, this time it was LDLC.com who surprised the CS:Source champions and beat them 16-10 on de_inferno_se.
The last quarter-final saw Overrated Individuals take care of LowLandLions with a decent 16-10 score on de_nuke_se. This is the second time Chris "chrisJ" De Jong's team went out of the EMS One Cup in the quarter-finals.
